Independence Day Rally

July 4, 2010
5:00-8:00 p.m.
Drive Park
St. Clair, MO

This July 4th, we will be celebrating America’s independence as well as the one-year anniversary of the Franklin County Patriots with a patriotic rally in St. Clair. More details will come in the near future, but we wanted to get the event on your calendars as soon as possible. The rally will begin late in the afternoon on Sunday, July 4th. There will be an opportunity before and after the event to meet candidates who are running for office and network with other patriots and patriotic organizations.

Schedule:

4:00-5:00 p.m. Meet and greet with candidates
5:00-6:30 p.m. Rally (including patriotic music)
6:30-8:00 p.m. Meeting with candidates and barbeque

The first event hosted by the Franklin County Patriots was scheduled last year on Independence Day at the Orchard City Park in St. Clair. No one could have anticipated the kind of progress or the tremendous growth we would see within our organization, as well as a strong spirit of cooperation with many like-minded patriotic groups, both locally and throughout the state. Orchard Park is the perfect venue to celebrate our national liberty, and also celebrate the progress of the liberty movement over the past year. The involvement of conservative, constitutional patriots is making an impact on current political campaigns and legislation that has not been seen in our nation in many years.

The Independence Day rally will include a fitting tribute to the spirit of independence that continues to thrive in the hearts of true patriots. We also hope that many of our elected officials and candidates will be present. The closer we get to the primary election in August, the more important it is that we work to get true conservatives elected. Invite your family and network of friends to mark their calendars and plan to celebrate our nation’s freedom with a gathering of patriots.

Rep. Brian Nieves Finishes Final Term in Missouri House

Good article in the Missourian by Evin Fritschle, Missourian Staff Writer

After four terms in the Missouri House of Representatives, 98th District Rep. Brian Nieves wrapped up his last session recently.

This past session, Nieves’ last because of term limits, saw his bills on state sovereignty pass both the House and Senate.

“It’s no secret that I’m not a fan of the Obama administration,” he said.

Nieves, who became majority whip as a freshman legislator, said being a member of House leadership for so long was one of his proudest accomplishments.

Nieves sat down with The Missourian at his state Senate campaign headquarters to look back on his time in office.

“I leave the House as the most tenured member of the leadership,” he said. “When I leave, there’s a pretty good chance that record will stand for some time.

“If I’m talking to my grandkids 30 years from now, I think I’d say the coolest thing (about serving in the House) was the honor bestowed by the people of this area to be in the House and the trust of the other members there to elevate me to a leadership role,” Nieves said.

Nieves said he never sponsored an earmark, even “when earmarks were considered cool,” and has enjoyed helping constituents with tangible problems.

“These types of things never make it on the 6 o’clock news, but they are the most rewarding,” he said.

Government officials often don’t answer directly to constituents enough, Nieves said.

Nieves also noted his constitutional amendment making English the official state language as a source of pride.

The current senatorial candidate said he hopes his replacement in the House is beholden to constituents and not any political establishment.

“The big thing is do not be lured or become enamored by the establishment,” he said. “You answer to the people. I’d like to see my replacement do an even better job than me of answering to the source of faith, the Constitution and the constituents.”

Looking Back

Term-limited out, Nieves reflected on what got him into politics in the first place.

“From the time I was a little boy, I remember feeling like I was always extremely patriotic,” the Navy veteran said.

“I joined the military right out of high school. I think it multiplied my natural patriotism,” Nieves said.

As a small business owner, Nieves said he became fed up with the taxes he paid and how he saw government being run.

“I got sick and tired of being sick and tired,” he said.

His wife, Julie, likely didn’t think he’d run for House, he said.

“She probably thought it was just another of those things I muttered to myself around the house,” he said.

Nieves has balanced his spiritual, political, family and business lives for nearly a decade.

“I knew one had to suffer, so we decided as a family for the business side to take the hit,” he said, noting his family makes less now than it did when he was a full-time businessman.

“My wife went back to work full time after 17 years as a stay-at-home mom,” Nieves said. “If I knew how crazy my life would be now eight years ago, I wouldn’t have (decided to run).”

Now, Nieves schedules his time carefully.

“When I block off family time, that’s concrete,” he said.

Nieves and wife Julie have three children, Alexandra, Moriah and Victor.

Nieves’ tenure has seen three governors, Bob Holden, Matt Blunt and the current governor, Jay Nixon.

“Holden was the worst to work with,” Nieves said. “Blunt was great from a policy standpoint.

“If I were to go to a ballgame with one of them, I’d go with Nixon. He’s very personable and smart, even though I don’t agree with his policies,” he said.

Literature Bomb for Paul Curtman

Paul Curtman is running for state representative in Missouri’s 105th District against a liberal SEIU-backed Democrat Incumbent.  If you live near Pacific, consider giving Paul the afternoon.  Rather than complaining about many of the spineless politicians currently in office, it is time that we do something about it.  This is a good place to start.

This announcement from Paul’s Campaign:

Paul is having another Lit Bomb on Saturday, June 5th. The first lit bomb that kicked off his campaign was in the winter time after a winter storm passed and was still an absolute success. Hopefully, the weather will be more conducive for the event. We need boots on the ground and we need support.  Please don’t let the fact that you don’t live in his district stop you from giving support. He is definitely worth your while. If you have any questions please feel free to get in contact with me and get involved with this candidate!

And this from Paul:

At my last literature bomb I had over 50 patriots show up to help me, the Liberals must have found out and they seem to be concerned about that kind of patriotic momentum on their turf.  About a month after I announced the details of my second literature bomb, I got word that the liberals are planning to do a lit bomb of their own on the SAME day in the SAME region.
If the liberals see me as a threat, they are right, but I am going to need to bring out the big guns for this.  Please bring people with you when you come, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.  I need SERIOUS REINFORCEMENTS! This is it, the fight is on.

When: Sat. June 5th at 1pm
Where: Pacific City Park
Congress St., Pacific, MO

Constitutional Conservative Drops Out; Endorses Chuck Purgason

This was released last night from the Chuck Purgason campaign:

Sen. Chuck Purgason received the endorsement of Jim Schmidt, a constitutional conservative who was running for the Republican nomination in the U.S. Senate Primary until he announced his withdrawal today. “Jim Schmidt’s endorsement underscores the importance of rallying the grassroots around the best candidate to take on the establishment’s anointed one,” said Sen. Chuck Purgason. Mr. Schmidt urged the public “to vote for Chuck Purgason in the August 3rd Republican Primary Election.”

“We need to send someone to Washington D.C. who has the courage to stop the federal government spending spree that is escalating the federal debt and threatening our nation’s economic stability. We need to send someone to Washington D.C. who is not entrenched in the corruption and abuse of an expanding federal state. Most importantly, we need to send someone to Washington D.C. who understands and can represent the interests of our great state,” said Jim Schmidt in his press release.

“I would like to thank Jim for his great endorsement and the confidence that he has in me. Jim and I share the same concerns about the direction our country in heading. Unless we return our nation to the conservative value of balanced budgets, and end government’s runaway spending, our children and grandchildren will pay the price,” said Sen. Purgason.

Schmidt’s endorsement adds to the momentum for Purgason’s campaign. Last week, Purgason won an online poll from the Missouri Sovereignty Project. The poll asked people to choose between Chuck Purgason and Roy Blunt. Purgason won the poll 75% to 25%.

“Carnahan and Blunt represent more of Washington D.C. business as usual,” said Sen. Chuck Purgason. “They both have years of experience in D.C. Both of their campaigns are being funded by out of state special interests. The mood of the country is quickly changing. The recent losses of a Republican Senator in his Utah primary and a Democrat House member in his West Virginia primary are proof that Americans are fed up with Washington D.C. big government policies.”

Franklin County Patriots Strategy Meeting Tonight

There will be a Franklin County Patriots’ Strategy Meeting tonight, May 18,  in Union.  We will begin at 7:00pm at the Franklin County Baptist Association Gymnasium.  The building is located at 785 Butterfield Dr., South Hwy 47  in Union.  We have several items to discuss, but our primary goal will be to strategize about the upcoming elections. We all understand how vital it is that we all be as informed as possible as we head into the election season.

Agenda items will include voter registration drives, phone banking, Get Out the Vote campaigns and planning for upcoming Franklin County Events. Our input and involvement are now more needed than ever. The freedoms we enjoy are under assault as never before. We know how critical the vote in November is, but if the most conservative candidates do not win in the August primary, we may not be enthused about our choices in November. We have less than 100 days until the November 3 primary.

This will also be a great recruitment opportunity. If you know of someone who is interested in learning more about Franklin County Patriots, invite them or bring them to this event. E-mail your lists and notify your friends.

Candidates will not be speaking at this meeting, but we will be giving an opportunity for individuals who are currently working on campaigns to briefly (very briefly) discuss those campaigns.
