Learn the Truth about Prop B

The focus of this year has been primarily on getting constitutionally-minded fiscal conservatives elected into office in November. Here in Missouri, however, there is a ballot measure that deserves our attention.

Proposition B, called the “Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act,” is a statewide bill that will be voted on in November. While the ballot language appears to be protective of the health of animals, the majority of the requirements laid out in the bill are already enforced by Missouri law.

The truth about Prop B can be found by digging a little deeper into the organization promoting and funding it–the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).  HSUS is not a friend of pets, but rather a radical leftist lobbying group with the goal of eliminating pet ownership and hunting, and converting everyone to vegetarian diets.

People often donate to HSUS thinking they are giving toward local animal shelters. In reality, it isn’t affiliated with local “humane society” organizations, and it doesn’t operate a single pet shelter or pet adoption facility anywhere.

From Consumer Freedom:

During 2008, HSUS contributed barely $450,000—less than one-half of one percent of its budget—in grants to dog and cat shelters. By comparison, that same year it gave $2.25 million to a political campaign committee behind an anti-meat ballot initiative in California, and put $2.5 million into HSUS’s executive pension plan. HSUS is the wealthiest animal-rights lobbying organization on earth.

Wayne Pacelle, President of HSUS, is quoted as saying, “We have no problem with the extinction of domestic animals.”

And this from Pacelle in a Washington Post interview: ”I think we will see a real reduction in the number of people wearing fur and the number of major retailers selling fur.” He is pushing for ”phasing out animals used in research.”  ”Hunting?” he says,  ”I think you will see a steady decline in numbers.”

It is clear that the agenda of Wayne Pacelle and HSUS goes much further than simply protecting mistreated puppies.
